ARRI Ensō Prime Lenses are compact, versatile, and designed for filmmakers who demand both optical performance and creative flexibility. These lightweight lenses deliver exceptional image quality in a wide range of shooting conditions, with a beautifully balanced native look that is sharp and true while remaining gentle and natural. For productions that call for a different visual character, the Ensō system introduces an innovative feature: magnetically attached Vintage Elements that modify the optical signature of the lens without requiring a lens swap or traditional filters. These elements are available in two distinct styles. Positive Vintage Elements create soft-edged, swirling bokeh reminiscent of Petzval optics, while Negative Elements produce highlights with dark centers and bright outlines for a more energetic and edgy image.
One of the most impressive features of the Ensō Primes is their close focus capability, with a magnification ratio of 1:4 on most focal lengths. For example, the 32 mm lens can focus just 10 inches from the sensor, which translates to only 3.7 inches from the front element. This makes the lenses ideal for detailed close-up shots. Focus breathing is minimal, allowing smooth and cinematic focus pulls without noticeable changes in framing.
To support modern workflows, each Vintage Element includes a built-in metadata chip that communicates changes in focal length, T-stop, and focus to on-set monitors and post-production software. When used with the ARRI Hi-5 or Hi-5 SX, focus scale changes caused by the Vintage Elements can even be compensated for automatically, whether or not lens shims are in place. With consistent gear ring positions across all focal lengths, most lenses featuring fast T2.1 apertures, and a uniform 95mm front diameter, Ensō lenses are quick to change on set and easy to integrate into any professional camera setup.
