Cooke AP3

The Cooke AP3 is a compact 1.5x anamorphic prime series designed specifically for full-frame mirrorless cameras, combining a distinctly anamorphic image with the size and handling of a modern lightweight lens. Available in 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm focal lengths, the AP3s cover full frame while remaining compatible with Super 35, with a T2.4 maximum aperture across the range. The optical design prioritizes clean central detail while retaining the organic qualities associated with anamorphic glass, including smooth focus transitions, smooth, organic out-of-focus rendering, gentle highlight bloom, and controlled distortion.

The AP3's 1.5x squeeze produces a recognizable widescreen character without the more exaggerated artifacts that can come with stronger anamorphic designs. Flares are organic and responsive to the light in the scene, with a classic anamorphic streaking quality that remains relatively controlled rather than overwhelming. Out-of-focus areas have a smooth, organic quality, while the lenses maintain strong central sharpness wide open. The combination of controlled anamorphic character, natural skin tones, and gentle image falloff gives the AP3s a distinctive cinematic quality without feeling overly stylized.
