Leitz HUGO
The Leitz HUGO lenses translate the character of Leica M glass into a purpose-built cinema system. The image is sharp without feeling clinical, paired with a softer contrast curve that keeps highlights smooth and skin tones natural. Pronounced field curvature introduces gentle edge falloff in both focus and illumination, helping subjects separate from the frame with a dimensional, organic feel.
Out-of-focus areas resolve into smooth, painterly bokeh with subtle texture, avoiding harsh or nervous backgrounds. Flares remain controlled but expressive, with a natural softness that gives the lenses an unmistakably photographic quality while still holding detail where it matters.
The set also includes the Leitz HUGO-N 50mm T1.0, built around the legendary Leica Noctilux-M 50mm f/0.95 ASPH optics. Wide open at T1.0, the lens delivers extreme subject separation, velvety focus falloff, and a dreamlike rendering that feels immersive without becoming overly soft. The look is distinctly cinematic and artful, with glowing highlights, rich warmth, and an almost medium-format sense of depth that stands apart within the HUGO lineup.
Mechanically, the lenses are designed for efficient on-set operation. A consistent 95mm front diameter, matched gear positions, and 270° focus rotation support fast lens changes and precise pulls. The housings are compact and lightweight, with improved close-focus performance over traditional M designs.
