The Sony BURANO is a full-frame 8K digital cinema camera built around a 35.9 × 24 mm CMOS sensor with 16 stops of advertised dynamic range and dual base ISO settings of 800 and 3200. It records internally in X-OCN LT and XAVC formats, with resolutions up to 8K and frame rates up to 120 fps at 4K. The camera features interchangeable ARRI PL and Sony E mounts, 5-axis sensor-shift stabilization, and an electronic variable ND system.
Designed for both traditional cinema production and compact camera configurations, the BURANO combines a relatively compact body with professional cinema connectivity, V-Mount power, an articulating touchscreen, and a removable electronic viewfinder. It supports PL lens metadata through Cooke /i and ZEISS eXtended Data and can be configured for handheld, gimbal, vehicle, and other specialized shooting applications.
The BURANO has been used on productions including Amazon Prime's Countdown, the Netflix documentary series Wrestlers, and Sony's Original, directed by Unjoo Moon and shot by Dion Beebe, ASC, ACS.
