Universal Softboxes

 is used to create shadow patterns on backgrounds or subjects. A flatly lit wall can be broken up into textured pools of light and shadow to either simulate realism or craft a stylized environment. Lighting directors frequently use them to imitate sunlight filtering through trees.

There are several different types of cookies, each providing different effects, and the resulting pattern itself depends on the distance of the cookie to both the light source and the background.

Cucoloris

 is a new, patented, portable lighting modification system that allows the location photographer/videographer the ability to quickly and easily duplicate studio lighting effects on location using their portable lights. ROADRAGS consists of two folding 18″x 24″ frames, single scrim, double scrim, artificial silk, and flag with a convenient carrying bag.

The elastic corded frames easily fold for storing and transporting. A simple flick of the wrist is all that’s required to quickly open the frame, making it ready for use. By using different materials the photographer/cinematographer/videographer is able to quickly create contrasts, different light ratios, diffusion or block the light. ROADRAGS kits will fit into most portable light kits.

Matthews Road Rags Kits

 flags and overheads use black fabric to block light completely, wherever needed. This is useful for creating contrast with negative fill or for removing unwanted light from certain areas of the frame. Most solids are made from panels of Commando Cloth, a black, 100% opaque fabric, but there are several alternatives for higher temperature lights or rougher outdoor conditions.

 materials are light colored or reflective surfaces that can be placed at appropriate angles to reflect light onto subjects, creating a softer quality and a bigger spread of the light. There are many different forms of bounces in production, including bead boards, mirrors and shiny boards, the Light Bridge, and several fabric flag and overhead options as listed below.

Bounces

Camo Nets provide many uses when in need to cover up something in a distance or blending the environment. 

Camo

Using a green or blue screen allows post-production background swapping for digitally matching the mood and look of a shoot, all from one backdrop fabric. Once the fabric is stretched tight on the background stand, you can take professional photos or videos without visible crease lines, allowing a smooth and seamless appearance in the studio or outdoors.

Chroma Green/Blue Screen

Our 50° Fabric Egg Crates are frame ready, with webbing, grommets, ties along all sides, and elastic on all four corners. This 50° diffuser is the industry standard, when it comes to controlling soft light spread. All of our egg crates are soft and come with a rigid carrying case labeled with its contents.

Egg Crate

Frosts offer unique diffusing qualities and levels of opaqueness that allow highlights to shine through while softening the edges and extending the wrap of harsher sources.

Frosts

 is used to diffuse light. Diffusion spreads and smooths the projected beam of light over the subject and reduces shadows. The heavier the diffusion, the greater and more even the resulting spread of light will be. Grid cloth comes in three weights.

Grid Cloth

 is a heavy diffusion material producing a soft even effect, often used with LED fixtures and Soft Boxes. With its excellent diffusion properties it blends the LED diodes into a single source. The heavy even spread that this diffusion offers is great for beauty shoots.

Magic Cloth

 is a cotton fabric used as a bounce or heavy diffusion of a light source. It comes in several different tones which each lend different color tones to the light.

Muslin

 soften and diffuse light rather than block or shape it. It comes in a white fabric and a more uncommon black version that has a rare quality all to itself.

Silk

 fabric provides a way to control the exposure of your lighting setup by reducing the brightness without much perceptible change in the quality. Cutting the light with nets allows more flexibility and precision when creating exact exposure corrections within a frame. The distance of the net from the light allows for harder or softer delineation of the different exposures and different sizes of flags give finer control over cutting different stops of light off of particular walls, set pieces, or bright costumes while leaving an actor’s face fully illuminated.
